free tibet?

“It is not clear how many people were arrested. All of the main streets have been blocked by military. The soldiers have been checking for everybody’s ID. Specially, people who were wearing Tibetan clothes were searched thoroughly. Soldiers forced their way in civilian homes to arrest people. They were using stick to beat those who have been arrested, and teargas to drive away onlookers

This picture makes me wonder about the word “freedom”. Are we, as individuals, free? If we answer NO, then we can understand what has been going on in Tibet and elsewhere. If we answer YES, then, what’s wrong with the world?
In any case, what can WE, as individuals, do to avoid repeating the same mistakes? Educate our children…

About Tibet…
It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago that writing nasty remarks about China on travel blogs was one small way to punish the ruling elite for the ongoing genocide in Tibet, so I leave vivid descriptions wherever potential travellers to the Olympics may congregate…
“The whole country smells like urine, except in the “wet markets,” where it smells like blood, and don’t forget genocide and the pauperization of small farmers, etc etc…”
Obviously this sort of thing isn’t consistent with the quietist esthetic of your blog, which I admire, but it’s probably slightly better than doing nothing.
Anyway, my low opinion of most tourists suggests to me that bad smells will scare away more of them than genocide.
